Aṅguttara Nikāya - The Numerical Discourses

1: The Book of the Ones

1. Obsession of the Mind - 2

1"Bhikkhus, I do not see even one other thing on account of which unarisen doubt arises and arisen doubt increases and expands so much as careless attention. [n.26] Mp cites Dhs 205 (Be §1167) for a definition of the hindrance of doubt (vicikicchānīvaraṇa) as doubt about the Buddha, the Dhamma, the Saṅgha, and the training (see too AN5.205). For one who attends carelessly, unarisen doubt arises and arisen doubt increases and expands."

1"Nāhaṁ, bhikkhave, aññaṁ ekadhammampi samanupassāmi yena anuppannā vā vicikicchā uppajjati uppannā vā vicikicchā bhiyyobhāvāya vepullāya saṁvattati yathayidaṁ, bhikkhave, ayonisomanasikāro. Ayoniso, bhikkhave, manasi karoto anuppannā ceva vicikicchā uppajjati uppannā ca vicikicchā bhiyyobhāvāya vepullāya saṁvattatī"ti.
