Thus have I heard: |
At one time, the Buddha was at Anāthapiṇḍada's Park in the Jeta Grove near Śrāvastī. | |
At that time, the World-Honored One told the bhikṣus, "If there is one person who appears in the world, it greatly benefits people, brings peace to sentient beings, has compassion for the masses of the world, and wishes to enable devas and humans to obtain blessings. Who is this one person? It is the Tathāgata, Arhat, Perfectly Enlightened One. This is called one person appearing in the world, greatly benefiting people, bringing peace to sentient beings, having compassion for the masses of the world, and wishing to enable devas and humans to obtain blessings. Therefore, bhikṣus! Always give rise to respect towards the Tathāgata. Therefore, bhikṣus! You should train in this way." |
At that time, the bhikṣus, having heard the Buddha's teaching, joyfully received and practiced it. |
