Saṃyuktāgama (2nd)

Thus have I heard:

Once, the Buddha was at the Karanda Bamboo Grove in Rājagṛha. At that time, to the north of Rājagṛha, there was a farmer brahmin named Dūraśarīra. At that time, the World-Honored One, in the morning, put on his robe, took his alms bowl, and went to his place. At that time, the brahmin saw the Buddha coming from afar, immediately went to the Buddha, and said, "World-Honored One! I am a farmer who eats from farming, not begging from others. Gautama! You can also farm and eat."

The Buddha said, "I also farm and eat."

At that time, the brahmin Dūraśarīra spoke a verse, saying:

You yourself say you know farming, but I have never seen
you farming. If you know farming, tell me the method of farming.

At that time, the World-Honored One spoke a verse in reply,

I take faith as the seed, all goodness as the fertile
field, diligence as the plow ox, wisdom as the yoke and
axle, shame and conscience as the plow parts, mindfulness as the
driver, body, speech, and mind are well-trained, and precepts as the
reins. Plowing away the defilements, timely sweet rain falls, and the
good mind is the weeding and hoeing. Greatly harvesting the good
seedlings, heading towards the place of peace and tranquility, one can
attain lasting peace. My plowing is like this, thus attaining the
fruit of immortality, transcending and leaving the three realms, not coming
to enter the various existences.

The brāhmaṇa said, "Your plowing is indeed the supreme plowing." The brāhmaṇa, hearing this verse, gave rise to faith and understanding. He filled a bowl with food and drink to offer to the Buddha, but the Buddha did not accept it. The rest is as told by the brāhmaṇa Daudhi. He did not accept future existence.
