Thus have I heard: |
At one time, the Buddha was traveling in the country of Kosala, staying in the forest of Sineru to the north of the village of Vairambha. | |
At that time, the brahmins and elders of the village of Vairambha heard that the World-Honored One was staying in the forest of Sineru to the north of the village of Vairambha. Having heard this, they rode in white horse-drawn carriages, with many attendants, holding golden bowls, parasols, and golden washbasins, and left the village of Vairambha to go to the forest of Sineru. At the entrance of the road, they got off the carriages and walked on foot. They entered the garden gate, went before the World-Honored One, exchanged greetings and pleasantries, and then sat to one side. They said to the Buddha, "Gautama! What are the causes and conditions for a person to die and be reborn in hell, up to being reborn in heaven?" The sutra explains in detail as above. |
At that time, the brahmin of Vairambha, having heard the Buddha's teaching, joyfully accepted it and rose from his seat to depart. | |
