Thus have I heard: | 如是我闻： |
At one time the Buddha was staying at Anāthapiṇḍada’s Park in the Jeta Grove near Śrāvastī. | 一时，佛住舍卫国祇树给孤独园。 |
At that time, forty celestial sons of the most exquisite appearance came to where the Buddha was, bowed their heads at his feet, and sat to one side. | 尔时，有四十天子，极妙之色，夜过晨朝，来诣佛所，稽首礼足，退坐一面。 |
At that time, the World-Honored One said to the celestial sons, "Excellent! Excellent! Celestial sons! You have accomplished the unshakable faith in the Buddha, the unshakable faith in the Dharma and Saṃgha, and the accomplishment of the noble precepts." | 尔时，世尊告诸天子：「善哉！善哉！诸天子！汝等成就于佛不坏净，于法、僧不坏净，圣戒成就？」 |
At that time, the celestial son rose from his seat, adjusted his robes, bowed his head at the Buddha's feet, joined his palms, and said to the Buddha, "World-Honored One! I have accomplished the unshakable faith in the Buddha. By the merit of this, when my body perishes and my life ends, I am now reborn in the heavens." | 时，天子从座起，整衣服，稽首佛足，合掌白佛言：「世尊！我成就于佛不坏净，缘此功德，身坏命终，今生天上。」 |
A celestial son said to the Buddha, "World-Honored One! I have accomplished the unshakable faith in the Dharma. By the merit of this, when my body perishes and my life ends, I am now reborn in the heavens." | 一天子白佛言：「世尊！我于法不坏净成就，缘此功德，身坏命终，今生天上。」 |
A celestial son said to the Buddha, "World-Honored One! I have accomplished the unshakable faith in the Sangha. By the merit of this, when my body perishes and my life ends, I am now reborn in the heavens." | 一天子白佛言：「世尊！我于僧不坏净成就，缘此功德，身坏命终，今生天上。」 |
A celestial son said to the Buddha, "World-Honored One! I have accomplished the noble precepts. By the merit of this, when my body perishes and my life ends, I am now reborn in the heavens." | 一天子白佛言：「世尊！我于圣戒成就，缘此功德，身坏命终，今生天上。」 |
At that time, the forty celestial sons each declared their attainment of the fruit of stream-entry before the Buddha, and then disappeared. | 时，四十天子各于佛前自记说须陀洹果已，即没不现。 |
As with the forty celestial sons, so too did four hundred celestial sons, eight hundred celestial sons, ten thousand celestial sons, twenty thousand celestial sons, thirty thousand celestial sons, forty thousand celestial sons, fifty thousand celestial sons, sixty thousand celestial sons, seventy thousand celestial sons, and eighty thousand celestial sons each declare their attainment of the fruit of stream-entry before the Buddha, and then disappeared. | 如四十天子，如是四百天子、八百天子、十千天子、二十千天子、三十千天子、四十千天子、五十千天子、六十千天子、七十千天子、八十千天子，各于佛前自记说须陀洹果已，即没不现。 |
