Thus have I heard: | 如是我闻: |
At one time, the Buddha was traveling in the country of Kosala and stayed in a grove by the Sundari River. | 一时,佛在] cf.【丽】拘萨罗人间游行,住孙陀利河侧丛林中。 |
At that time, a brahmin who lived by the Sundari River came to where the Buddha was, exchanged greetings, and sat to one side. He asked the Buddha, "Gautama, do you bathe in the Sundari River?" | 时,有孙陀利河侧住止婆罗门来诣佛所,面相问讯慰劳已,退坐一面,问佛言:「瞿昙!至孙陀利河中洗浴不?」 |
The Buddha told the brahmin, "Why bathe in the Sundari River?" | 佛告婆罗门:「何用于孙陀利河中洗浴为?」 |
The brahmin said to the Buddha, "Gautama! The Sundari River is a number that saves, a number of auspiciousness, a number of purity. If one bathes in it, it can remove all evil for people." | 婆罗门白佛:「瞿昙!孙陀利河是济度之数,是吉祥之数,是清净之数,若有于中洗浴者,悉能除人一切诸恶。」 |

At that time, the brāhmaṇa by the Sundari River, having heard the Buddha's teaching, rejoiced and followed the Buddha's words. He rose from his seat and departed. | 尔时,孙陀利河侧婆罗门闻佛所说,欢喜随喜,从座起而去。 |
