At that time, the World-Honored One told the bhikṣus, "If a good man, with right faith, leaves home and studies the path, he should know the four noble truths. What are the four? They are: knowing the noble truth of suffering, knowing the noble truth of the origin of suffering, knowing the noble truth of the cessation of suffering, and knowing the noble truth of the path leading to the cessation of suffering. Therefore, bhikṣus, for those who have not yet attained the four noble truths, they should diligently cultivate the means to attain them. These verses should be fully explained in all the sūtras on the four noble truths." |
After the Buddha spoke this sūtra, the bhikṣus heard what the Buddha said and joyfully practiced it. |
