Thus have I heard: | 一时，佛住舍卫国祇树给孤独园。尔时，尊者摩诃迦旃延住阿槃提国拘罗罗咤精舍。尊者摩诃迦旃延晨朝著衣持钵，入拘罗罗咤精舍，次第乞食，至迦梨迦优婆夷舍。 |
At that time, the laywoman saw Venerable Mahākātyāyana and immediately prepared a seat, inviting him to sit down. She bowed to Venerable Mahākātyāyana's feet, then stood to one side and said to Venerable Mahākātyāyana: "As the World-Honored One said, answering the questions of the girl Saṅghitā, as the World-Honored One said the verses asked by the girl Saṅghitā: | 时，优婆夷见尊者摩诃迦旃延，即敷床坐，请令就坐，前礼尊者摩诃迦旃延足，退住一面，白尊者摩诃迦旃延：「如世尊所说，答僧耆多童女所问，如世尊说僧耆多童女所问偈： |

"Venerable Mahākātyāyana! What is the meaning of this verse spoken by the World-Honored One?" | 「尊者摩诃迦旃延！世尊此偈，其义云何？」 |
Venerable Mahākātyāyana said to the upāsikā, "Sister! There are some śramaṇas and brāhmaṇas who say that the attainment of the earth element is supreme, seeking this fruit. Sister! If śramaṇas and brāhmaṇas attain purity and freshness in the attainment of the earth element, they will see its origin, see its danger, see its cessation, and see the path leading to its cessation. By seeing its origin, danger, cessation, and the path leading to its cessation, they attain the true meaning abiding in the mind, tranquil and not disturbed. Sister! In the same way, the attainment of the water element, fire element, wind element, blue element, yellow element, red element, white element, space element, and consciousness element are supreme, seeking this fruit. | 尊者摩诃迦旃延语优婆夷言：「姊妹！有一沙门婆罗门言：『地一切入处正受，此则无上，为求此果。』姊妹！若沙门婆罗门于地一切入处正受，清净鲜白者，则见其本，见患、见灭、见灭道迹；以见本、见患、见灭、见灭道迹故，得真实义存于心，寂灭而不乱。姉妹！如是水一切入处、火一切入处、风一切入处、青一切入处、黄一切入处、赤一切入处、白一切入处、空一切入处、识一切入处为无上者，为求此果。 |
Sister! If there are śramaṇas and brāhmaṇas who attain purity and freshness in the attainment of the consciousness element, they will see its origin, see its danger, see its cessation, and see the path leading to its cessation. By seeing its origin, danger, cessation, and the path leading to its cessation, they will attain the true meaning abiding in the mind, tranquil and not disturbed, seeing well and entering well. Therefore, the World-Honored One answered the verses asked by the girl Saṅghā. | 「姊妹！若有沙门婆罗门，乃至于识处一切入处正受，清净鲜白者，见本、见患、见灭、见灭道迹；以见本、见患、见灭、见灭道迹故，是则实义存于心，寂灭而不乱，善见、善入。是故世尊答僧耆多童女所问偈： |

Thus, sister! I understand that the World-Honored One spoke these verses for this meaning. | 「如是，姊妹！我解世尊以如是义故，说如是偈。」 |
The upāsikā said, "Excellent! The Venerable speaks the true meaning. May the Venerable accept my invitation to a meal. | 优婆夷言：「善哉！尊者说真实义，唯愿尊者受我请食。」 |
At that time, the Venerable Mahākātyāyana silently accepted the invitation. | 时，尊者摩诃迦旃延默然受请。 |
At that time, the upāsikā Kālikā, knowing that the Venerable Mahākātyāyana had accepted the invitation, immediately prepared various pure and delicious foods and respectfully offered them with her own hands. | 时，迦梨迦优婆夷知尊者摩诃迦旃延受请已，即办种种净美饮食，恭敬尊重，自手奉食。 |
At that time, the upāsikā, knowing that the Venerable Mahākātyāyana had finished eating, washed his bowl and rinsed his mouth, then prepared a low seat and respectfully listened to the Dharma in front of the Venerable Mahākātyāyana. | 时，优婆夷知尊者摩诃迦旃延食已，洗钵、澡嗽讫，敷一卑坐，于尊者摩诃迦旃延前恭敬听法。 |
The Venerable Mahākātyāyana taught the upāsikā Kālikā in various ways, showing, teaching, illuminating, and delighting her. Having shown, taught, illuminated, and delighted her, he rose from his seat and departed. | 尊者摩诃迦旃延为迦梨迦优婆夷种种说法，示、教、照、喜；示、教、照、喜已，从座起而去。 |
