Saṃyuktāgama

Thus have I heard:

At one time, the Buddha was staying at the Ghosita Monastery in the country of Kusinara. At that time, Venerable Ānanda was also staying there.

At that time, the nun Jnanaloka went to Venerable Ānanda, bowed her head at his feet, sat to one side, and asked Venerable Ānanda, "If one dwells in the formless concentration of mind, neither rising nor sinking, liberated and abiding, abiding and liberated, Venerable Ānanda, what fruit and merit does the World-Honored One say this leads to?"

Venerable Ānanda said to the nun Jnanaloka, "If one dwells in the formless concentration of mind, neither rising nor sinking, liberated and abiding, abiding and liberated, the World-Honored One says this leads to the fruit and merit of wisdom."

The nun Jnanaloka said, "Wonderful! Venerable Ānanda! The Master and his disciples have the same words, the same flavor, and the same meaning. Venerable Ānanda! Once, the Buddha was dwelling in the Ancestral Forest in the city of Savatthi. At that time, many nuns went to the Buddha and asked about this meaning. At that time, the World-Honored One explained with these words, this flavor, and this meaning to the nuns. Therefore, we should know that it is wonderful that the Master and his disciples have the same words, the same flavor, and the same meaning, namely, the meaning of the first phrase."

At that time, the nun Jnanaloka, having heard what Venerable Ānanda said, joyfully rejoiced, paid homage, and departed.

Just as the nun Jnanaloka, so too was the nun Kalavika.
