SA 882（八八二） 不放逸根本

Thus have I heard:

At one time the Buddha was staying at Anāthapiṇḍada’s Park in the Jeta Grove near Śrāvastī.

At that time the World-Honored One told the bhikṣus, "Just as various grasses and trees all depend on the earth to grow, so do various wholesome dharmas all depend on non-distraction as their basis..." as above, up to nirvāṇa.

Just as black agarwood is the best of all fragrances, so is non-distraction the best of all wholesome dharmas.

Just as solid fragrances, red sandalwood is the best, so are all wholesome dharmas all based on non-distraction. Thus, up to nirvāṇa.

Just as all water and land flowers, the blue lotus flower is the best, so are all wholesome dharmas all based on non-distraction, up to nirvāṇa.

Just as land-grown flowers, the jasmine flower is the best, so are all wholesome dharmas all based on non-distraction, up to nirvāṇa.

"Just as, bhikṣus! among all animal tracks, the elephant track is the best, so are all wholesome dharmas all based on non-distraction, up to nirvāṇa...." as above, up to nirvāṇa.

"Just as among all animals, the lion is the best, called the lord of animals, so are all wholesome dharmas all based on non-distraction, up to nirvāṇa...." as above, up to nirvāṇa.

"Just as among all houses and buildings, the roof is the best, so are all wholesome dharmas all based on non-distraction, up to nirvāṇa...." as above, up to nirvāṇa.

"Just as among all jambū fruits, only those that can be called jambū fruits are the best, so are all wholesome dharmas all based on non-distraction, up to nirvāṇa...." as above, up to nirvāṇa.

"Just as among all śāla trees, the śāla tree is the best, so are all wholesome dharmas all based on non-distraction, up to nirvāṇa...." as above, up to nirvāṇa.

"Just as among all mountains, Mount Sumeru is the best, so are all wholesome dharmas all based on non-distraction, up to nirvāṇa...." as above, up to nirvāṇa.

"Just as among all gold, Jambūnada gold is the best, so are all wholesome dharmas all based on non-distraction, up to nirvāṇa...." as above, up to nirvāṇa.

"Just as among all garments, Kāśika fine cotton is the best, so are all wholesome dharmas all based on non-distraction, up to nirvāṇa...." as above, up to nirvāṇa.

"Just as among all colors, white is the best, so are all wholesome dharmas all based on non-distraction, up to nirvāṇa...." as above, up to nirvāṇa.

"Just as among all birds, the garuḍa is the best, so are all wholesome dharmas all based on non-distraction, up to nirvāṇa...." as above, up to nirvāṇa.

"Just as among all kings, the wheel-turning sage-king is the best, so are all wholesome dharmas all based on non-distraction, up to nirvāṇa...." as above, up to nirvāṇa.

"Just as among all heavenly kings, the four great heavenly kings are the best, so are all wholesome dharmas all based on non-distraction, up to nirvāṇa...." as above, up to nirvāṇa.

"Just as among all the thirty-three heavens, Śakra is the best, so are all wholesome dharmas all based on non-distraction, up to nirvāṇa...." as above, up to nirvāṇa.

"Just as among the Yāma Heaven, the Yāma Heaven King is the best, so are all wholesome dharmas all based on non-distraction, up to nirvāṇa...." as above, up to nirvāṇa.

"Just as among the Tuṣita Heaven, the Tuṣita Heaven King is the best, so are all wholesome dharmas all based on non-distraction, up to nirvāṇa...." as above, up to nirvāṇa.

"Just as among the Nirmāṇarati Heaven, the Nirmāṇarati Heaven King is the best, so are all wholesome dharmas all based on non-distraction, up to nirvāṇa...." as above, up to nirvāṇa.

"Just as among the Paranirmitavaśavartin Heaven, the Paranirmitavaśavartin Heaven Prince is the best, so are all wholesome dharmas all based on non-distraction, up to nirvāṇa...." as above, up to nirvāṇa.

"Just as among the Brahmakāyika Heaven, the Mahābrahmā is the best, so are all wholesome dharmas all based on non-distraction, up to nirvāṇa...." as above, up to nirvāṇa.

"Just as all the rivers of Jambudvīpa flow into the great ocean, and the great ocean is the best, because it can contain them, so are all wholesome dharmas all based on non-distraction, up to nirvāṇa...." as above, up to nirvāṇa.

"Just as all raindrops return to the great ocean, so are all wholesome dharmas all based on non-distraction, up to nirvāṇa...." as above, up to nirvāṇa.

"Just as all rivers, the Anavatapta River is the best, so are all wholesome dharmas, non-distraction is the best...." as above, up to nirvāṇa.

"Just as all rivers in Jambudvīpa, the four great rivers are the best, namely the Ganges, Yamunā, Sarabhū, and Sītā, so are all wholesome dharmas, non-distraction is the best...." as above, up to nirvāṇa.

"Just as the light of all stars, the moon is the best, so are all wholesome dharmas, non-distraction is the best...." as above, up to nirvāṇa.

"Just as among all beings with large bodies, Rāhu the asura is the best, so are all wholesome dharmas, non-distraction is their root...." as above, up to nirvāṇa.

"Just as among those who enjoy the five desires, King Dhṛtarāṣṭra is the best, so are all wholesome dharmas, non-distraction is their root...." as above, up to nirvāṇa.

"Just as among the supernatural powers of the desire realm, Māra Pāpīyas is the best, so are all wholesome dharmas, non-distraction is their root...." as above, up to nirvāṇa.

"Just as among all beings, those without feet, with two feet, with four feet, with many feet, with form, formless, with perception, without perception, neither with perception nor without perception, the Tathāgata is the best, so are all wholesome dharmas, non-distraction is their root...." as above, up to nirvāṇa.

"Just as among all dharmas, conditioned and unconditioned, detachment is the best, so are all wholesome dharmas, non-distraction is their root...." as above, up to nirvāṇa.

"Just as among all groups of dharmas, the Tathāgata's group is the best, so are all wholesome dharmas, non-distraction is their root...." as above, up to nirvāṇa.

"Just as among all the realms of practice, the holy realm of Brahmā is the best, so are all wholesome dharmas, non-distraction is their root...." as above, up to nirvāṇa.

Having spoken this sūtra, the bhikṣus heard what the Buddha had said and joyfully upheld it.
