SN26: Connected Discourses on Arising

SN26:1. The Eye

1At Sāvatthī. "Bhikkhus, the arising, continuation, production, and manifestation of the eye is the arising of suffering, the continuation of disease, the manifestation of aging-and-death. [n.272] This is a template, to be filled in with the same content as in the preceding chapter. SN26.9 is almost identical with SN14.36, but includes as well the space element and the consciousness element. SN26.10 is fully identical with SN22.30. See II, n. 253. The arising, continuation, production, and manifestation of the ear … of the nose … of the tongue … of the body … of the mind sn.iii.229 is the arising of suffering, the continuation of disease, the manifestation of aging-and-death.

"The cessation, subsiding, and passing away of the eye … the mind is the cessation of suffering, the subsiding of disease, the passing away of aging-and-death."
