SN48:64 The Destruction of the Taints

1"Bhikkhus, these five faculties, when developed and cultivated, lead to the destruction of the taints. What five? The faculty of faith … the faculty of wisdom.

2"These five faculties, when developed and cultivated, lead to the abandoning of the fetters, to the uprooting of the underlying tendencies, to the full understanding of the course, to the destruction of the taints. What five? The faculty of faith … the faculty of wisdom … .."

1"Pañcimāni, bhikkhave, indriyāni bhāvitāni bahulīkatāni āsavānaṁ khayāya saṁvattanti. Katamāni pañca? Saddhindriyaṁ … pe … paññindriyaṁ – imāni kho, bhikkhave, pañcindriyāni bhāvitāni bahulīkatāni āsavānaṁ khayāya saṁvattantīti.

2Pañcimāni, bhikkhave, indriyāni bhāvitāni bahulīkatāni saṁyojanappahānāya saṁvattanti, anusayasamugghātāya saṁvattanti, addhānapariññāya saṁvattanti, āsavānaṁ khayāya saṁvattanti. Katamāni pañca? Saddhindriyaṁ … pe … paññindriyaṁ – imāni kho, bhikkhave, pañcindriyāni bhāvitāni bahulīkatāni saṁyojanappahānāya saṁvattanti, anusayasamugghātāya saṁvattanti, addhānapariññāya saṁvattanti, āsavānaṁ khayāya saṁvattantī"ti.
