Seyyathāpi, bhikkhave, puriso kusalo bherisaddassa.   Suppose a person was skilled in the sound of drums.  
So addhānamaggappaṭipanno bherisaddaṁ suṇeyya.  
While traveling along a road they hear the sound of drums.  
‘bherisaddo nu kho, na nu kho bherisaddo’ti.  
that was the sound of drums or not.  
Atha kho bherisaddotveva niṭṭhaṁ gaccheyya.  
They’d just conclude, ‘That’s the sound of drums.’  

Idha, bhikkhave, ekacco bherisaddampi savanāya gacchati, vīṇāsaddampi savanāya gacchati, gītasaddampi savanāya gacchati, uccāvacaṁ vā pana savanāya gacchati, samaṇassa vā brāhmaṇassa vā micchādiṭṭhikassa micchāpaṭipannassa dhammassavanāya gacchati.   Some people go to hear the sound of drums, arched harps, singing, or a diverse spectrum of sounds; or ascetics and brahmins of wrong view and wrong practice.

Suppose there was a person traveling along the road. They’d hear the sound of drums, clay drums, horns, kettledrums, and tom-toms. They’d think: ‘That’s the sound of drums,’ and ‘that’s the sound of clay drums,’ and ‘that’s the sound of horns, kettledrums, and tom-toms.’  

Seyyathāpi, māṇava, puriso addhānamaggappaṭipanno. So suṇeyya bherisaddampi mudiṅgasaddampi saṅkhapaṇavadindimasaddampi. the sound of elephants, horses, chariots, drums, clay drums, arched harps, singing, horns, gongs, and handbells; and the cry: ‘Eat, drink, be merry!’ as the tenth.
