Thus have I heard: | 如是我闻: |
Once, the Buddha was at Jetavana Anāthapiṇḍada-ārāma in Śrāvastī. At that time, a god with doubled radiance came to where the Buddha was. His bodily radiance illuminated the entire Jetavana, shining brightly. He then sat to one side and spoke a verse: | 一时,佛在舍卫国祇树给孤独园。时有一天,光色倍常,来诣佛所,身光显照,遍于祇洹,赫然大明,却坐一面,而说偈言: |

At that time, the World-Honored One replied in verse: | 尔时,世尊以偈答曰: |

At that time, after this god had spoken this verse, he joyfully returned to his palace. | 尔时,此天说此偈已,欢喜还宫。 |
