SA-2 320（三二〇）

At that time, Venerable Aniruddha was traveling with the Buddha to the palace of the demoness in the country of Magadha. Venerable Aniruddha rose early in the middle of the night, sat upright and recited the verses of the Dharma, as well as the verses of the great elder Parayana, and also recited and studied their meanings and the sutras aloud. At that time, the demoness' beloved youngest son, named Pingala, cried and shed tears. The demoness comforted her son, saying, "The monk is reciting the sutras, do not cry." She then spoke a verse, saying:

Stop your crying, Pingala, and listen to the monk recite the verses of the Dharma. Having
heard these verses, you will eliminate breaking the precepts and attain purity and be able to
uphold the precepts. Stop your crying, Pingala, and listen to the monk recite the verses of
the Dharma. Having heard these verses, you will attain non-killing. Stop your crying, Pingala, and listen
to the monk recite the verses of the Dharma. Having heard these verses, you will attain
truthful speech. Stop your crying, Pingala, and listen to the monk recite the verses of the
Dharma. Having heard these verses, you will be free from the womb of a ghost. Therefore
you should stop crying.
