Thus have I heard: |
At one time the Buddha was staying at the Kalandaka Bamboo Grove in Rājagṛha. | |
At that time, Venerable Aniruddha was traveling among the people of Magadha and stayed overnight at the abode of the Piṅgalā ghost mother. In the latter part of the night, Venerable Aniruddha sat upright and recited the Udāna, Pārāyaṇa, the verses spoken by those who had seen the truth, the verses spoken by the senior monks, the verses spoken by the nuns, the Śīla verses, the Dharma verses, the Muni verses, and the Sūtras, all of which he recited extensively. |
At that time, the Piṅgalā ghost cried out in the night. The Piṅgalā ghost mother spoke a verse to admonish her son, saying: |
|
|
When the Piṅgalā ghost mother spoke this verse, the Piṅgalā ghost's crying immediately stopped. | |
