Saṃyuktāgama

Thus have I heard:

Once, the Buddha was traveling in the human realm of Kosala, staying in an empty and secluded place without villages, together with a group of bhikkhus. At that time, the World-Honored One spoke to the bhikkhus about the Dharma that accords with the practice of forest dwelling.

At that time, the Lord of the Sahā World, the Brahmā King, had this thought: "Now the World-Honored One is traveling in the human realm of Kosala, staying in an empty and secluded place without villages, together with a great assembly, spending the night in the wilderness. At that time, the World-Honored One spoke to the great assembly about the Dharma that accords with emptiness. I should go now to praise and support him!"

Just as quickly as a strong man bends and stretches his arm, he disappeared from the Brahma Heaven and appeared before the Buddha. He bowed his head at the Buddha's feet, then sat to one side and spoke in verse:

Approaching the forest seat, cutting off all afflictions, If
not delighting in solitude, entering the assembly to restrain
oneself. Subduing one's own mind, going from house to
house for alms, Controlling the faculties, concentrating the mind
Then practicing solitude, the seat of the forest, far
from all terrors, dwelling in fearlessness and peace. If
there are those fierce and dangerous, evil snakes and
poisonous harm, Dark clouds and great darkness, with thunder
and lightning flashing, Because of being free from afflictions
dwelling in peace day and night. As I have
heard the Dharma, not yet fully understood, practicing pure
conduct alone, not fearing a thousand deaths at the
hands of Māra. If practicing the path of awakening
not fearing the many. All those who attain the
stream-enterer, or the once-returner, and the non-returner, their number
is also immeasurable, unable to determine their number, fearing false speech.

At that time, the Lord of the Sahā World, the Brahma King, having heard the Buddha's words, rejoiced and followed his joy. He bowed to the Buddha and then disappeared.
