Thus have I heard: | 如是我闻: |
At one time the Buddha was staying at Anāthapiṇḍada’s Park in the Jeta Grove near Śrāvastī. | 一时,佛住舍卫国祇树给孤独园。 |
At that time, a god with an extremely handsome appearance came to where the Buddha was in the latter part of the night. He bowed his head at the Buddha’s feet, and his entire body emitted a bright light that illuminated Anāthapiṇḍada’s Park. | 时,有一天子,容色绝妙,于后夜时来诣佛所,稽首佛足,身诸光明遍照祇树给孤独园。 |
At that time, the god spoke a verse, saying: | 时,彼天子而说偈言: |

At that time, the World-Honored One said to the god, "Do you have any complaints now?" | 尔时,世尊告天子言:「汝今有所嫌责耶?」 |
The god said to the Buddha, "I repent, World-Honored One! I repent, Well-Gone One!" | 天子白佛:「悔过,世尊!悔过,善逝!」 |
At that time, the World-Honored One smiled with joy. | 尔时,世尊熙怡微笑。 |
