SA 1339（一三三九） 迦叶

Thus have I heard:

At one time the Buddha was staying at the Kalandaka Bamboo Grove in Rājagṛha.

At that time, Venerable Daśabala Kāśyapa was staying in the Rājagṛha Ṛṣi Cave. At that time, there was a hunter named Śikhi who set up a net not far from Daśabala Kāśyapa to catch deer. At that time, Daśabala Kāśyapa compassionately taught the Dharma to that hunter. At that time, that hunter did not understand what was said. At that time, Daśabala Kāśyapa then used his supernatural power to light a fire at the tip of his finger, but he still did not understand.

At that time, the heavenly spirit dwelling in the Ṛṣi Cave spoke a verse:

The hunter in the deep mountains has little wisdom, is blind and
sightless. Why speak at the wrong time? He has little merit and
no eloquence. What he hears he does not understand. Even in the
light he sees nothing. In the excellent Dharma of goodness, the ignorant
cannot comprehend. Even if he burns his ten fingers, he will still
not see the truth.

At that time, after the heavenly spirit had spoken this verse, Venerable Daśabala Kāśyapa remained silent.
