Parallel to: SN 18.21 / SN 22.91 / SĀ 198
Thus have I heard: |
At one time the Buddha was staying at the Kalandaka Bamboo Grove in Rājagṛha. | |
At that time, Venerable Rāhula went to where the Buddha was, bowed his head at the Buddha's feet, stood to one side, and said to the Buddha, "World-Honored One! How can I know and see this body of consciousness and all external objects, so as to eliminate the view of 'I' and 'mine,' the conceit of 'I,' and the afflictions and attachments of 'I'?" |
The Buddha told Rāhula, "Excellent! Excellent! You are able to ask the Tathāgata: 'How can I know and see this body of consciousness and all external objects, so as to eliminate the view of "I" and "mine," the conceit of "I," and the afflictions and attachments of "I"?'" |
Rāhula said to the Buddha, "Yes, World-Honored One!" | |
The Buddha told Rāhula, "Excellent! Listen carefully, listen carefully, and consider it well. I shall explain it to you. Rāhula! Observe all forms, whether past, future, or present, internal or external, coarse or subtle, beautiful or ugly, far or near, they are all not the self, not different from the self, and not in the self. Thus, one should contemplate with the wisdom of equality. Thus, one should contemplate with the wisdom of equality. Thus, one should contemplate with the wisdom of equality. Thus, one should contemplate with the wisdom of equality. Thus, one should contemplate with the wisdom of equality. Thus, one should contemplate with the wisdom of equality. Thus, one should contemplate with the wisdom of equality. Thus, one should contemplate with the wisdom of equality. Thus, one should | 佛告罗睺罗:「善哉!谛听!谛听!善思念之,当为汝说。罗睺罗!当观若所有诸色,若过去、若未来、若现在,若内、若外,若麁、若细,若好、若丑,若远、若近,彼一切悉皆非我、不异我、不相在,如是平等慧正观。如是受、想、行、识,若过去、若未来、若现在,若内、若外,若麁、若细,若好、若丑,若远、若近,彼一切非我、不异我、不相在。如是平等慧如实观。 |
Thus it is, Rāhula! A bhikṣu knows and sees thus. One who knows and sees thus, with regard to this body of consciousness and external objects, has no view of self, mine, or conceit, and is not bound by the fetters of conceit. |
Rāhula! If a bhikṣu, with regard to this body of consciousness and external objects, has no view of self, mine, or conceit, and is not bound by the fetters of conceit, then that bhikṣu is said to have cut off craving, turned away from all fetters, and attained the right state of equanimity, ultimately ending suffering. |
At that time, Rāhula, having heard the Buddha's teaching, joyfully received and practiced it. |
