Thus have I heard: |
At one time the Buddha was staying at Anāthapiṇḍada’s Park in the Jeta Grove near Śrāvastī. | |
At that time, the World-Honored One addressed the bhikṣus, saying: "I do not dispute with the world, but the world disputes with me. Why is that? Bhikṣus! If one speaks in accordance with the Dharma, one does not dispute with the world. The worldly wise say it exists, and I also say it exists. What do the worldly wise say exists, and I also say exists? Bhikṣus! Form is impermanent, suffering, and subject to change. The worldly wise say it exists, and I also say it exists. Likewise, feeling, perception, formation, and consciousness are impermanent, suffering, and subject to change. The worldly wise say it exists, and I also say it exists. The worldly wise say it does not exist, and I also say it does not exist. That is to say, form is permanent, stable, unchanging, and rightly abiding. The worldly wise say it does not exist, and I also say it does not exist. Feeling, perception, formation, and consciousness are permanent, stable, unchanging, and rightly abiding. The worldly wise say it does not exist, and I also say it does not exist. This is called what the worldly wise say does not exist, and I also say does not exist. Bhikṣus! There is the world and worldly dharmas. I myself know and realize them, and I explain and reveal them to others. The blind and eyeless in the world do not know or see them. That is not my fault. |
"Bhikṣus! What are the worldly dharmas of the world that I know and realize myself, and explain and reveal to others? The blind and eyeless do not know or see them. What can I do for those blind and eyeless who do not know or see them?" |
Having spoken this sūtra, the Buddha finished what he had to say. The bhikṣus, having heard what the Buddha said, rejoiced and received it respectfully. | |
