Thus have I heard: | 如是我闻： |
At one time the Buddha was staying at Anāthapiṇḍada’s Park in the Jeta Grove near Śrāvastī. | 一时，佛住舍卫国祇树给孤独园。 |
At that time the World-Honored One told the bhikṣus, "The world knows that worldly people engage in lowly activities, seeking various ways to make a living and become wealthy. I also speak in the same way as the world knows. Why is that? I do not want to be different from worldly people. | 尔时，世尊告诸比丘：「世人为卑下业，种种求财活命，而得巨富，世人皆知。如世人之所知，我亦如是说。所以者何？莫令我异于世人。 |
Bhikṣus! It is like a single vessel. Some people call it a ganci, some call it a pātra, some call it a bhikṣā, some call it a cīvara, some call it a viśiṣṭa, some call it a vajra, some call it a śaraṇa. I also speak in the same way as they know. Why is that? I do not want to be different from worldly people. | 「诸比丘！譬如一器，有一处人，名为揵茨，有名钵，有名匕匕罗，有名遮留，有名毘悉多，有名婆阇那，有名萨牢。如彼所知，我亦如是说。所以者何？莫令我异于世人故。如是，比丘！有世间法，我自知自觉，为人分别演说显示，知见而说，世间盲无目者不知不见；世间盲无目者不知不见，我其如之何！ |
Bhikṣus! What are the worldly dharmas of the world that I know and realize myself, and so on, up to what the blind and eyeless do not know or see? Form is impermanent, suffering, and subject to change. This is the worldly dharma of the world. Feeling, perception, formation, and consciousness are impermanent, suffering, and subject to change. This is the worldly dharma of the world. Bhikṣus! This is called the worldly dharma of the world. I know and see it myself, and so on, up to what the blind and eyeless do not know or see. What can I do about it? | 「比丘！云何世间世间法，我自知自觉，乃至不知不见？色无常、苦、变易法，是为世间世间法；受、想、行、识，无常、苦、变易法，是世间世间法。比丘！是名世间世间法，我自知自见，乃至盲无目者不知不见，其如之何！」 |
After the Buddha spoke this sūtra, the bhikṣus heard what the Buddha said and joyfully practiced it. | 佛说此经已，诸比丘闻佛所说，欢喜奉行。 |
