Saṃyuktāgama
Thus have I heard: |
At one time the Buddha was staying at the Mountain Valley Monastery in Rājagṛha. | |
At that time, Venerable Ānanda was alone in a quiet place, and he had this thought: "The half-brahmin practitioner refers to good friends, good companions, and good followers." ... The Buddha told Ānanda: "The pure and complete brahmin practitioner refers to good friends. Why is that? Because I am a good friend, I cause sentient beings to cultivate right view, based on seclusion, based on non-desire, based on cessation, and directed towards relinquishment, and so on, up to cultivating right concentration, based on seclusion, based on non-desire, based on cessation, and directed towards relinquishment." |
Having spoken this sūtra, the Buddha finished what he had to say. Venerable Ānanda, having heard what the Buddha said, rejoiced and upheld it. |
