SA 770（七七〇） 邪

Thus have I heard:

At one time the Buddha was staying at Anāthapiṇḍada’s Park in the Jeta Grove near Śrāvastī.

At that time the World-Honored One told the bhikṣus, "One should abandon wrong views, one should eliminate wrong views. If wrong views were not to be eliminated, I would never say that one should abandon and eliminate wrong views. Because wrong views can be eliminated, I say that bhikṣus should abandon wrong views. If one does not abandon wrong views, wrong views will bring about meaninglessness, harm, and suffering. Therefore I say that one should abandon wrong views. Wrong intention, wrong speech, wrong action, wrong livelihood, wrong effort, wrong mindfulness, and wrong concentration are also explained in the same way.

Bhikṣus! Having abandoned wrong views, one should cultivate right views. If right views could not be cultivated, I would never say to cultivate right views. Because right views can be cultivated, I say that bhikṣus should cultivate right views. If right views are not cultivated, they will bring about meaninglessness, harm, and suffering. Because right views not being cultivated brings about meaninglessness, harm, and suffering, therefore I say that one should cultivate right views, for the sake of meaningfulness, benefit, and always attaining peace and happiness. Therefore, bhikṣus! One should cultivate right views. Right intention, right speech, right action, right livelihood, right effort, right mindfulness, and right concentration are also explained in the same way.

After the Buddha had spoken this sūtra, the bhikṣus heard what the Buddha had said and joyfully practiced it.
