Thus have I heard: | 如是我闻: |
Once, the Buddha was at Jetavana Anāthapiṇḍada-ārāma in Śrāvastī. At that time, a god named Kāma came to where the Buddha was. His radiance was brilliant, illuminating the entire Jetavana. He bowed at the Buddha's feet, then stood to one side and spoke a verse, saying: | 一时,佛在舍卫国祇树给孤独园。时有天子名曰迦默,来诣佛所,光明赫然,遍照祇洹,礼佛足已,却住一面,而说偈言: |

At that time, the World-Honored One replied in verse: | 尔时,世尊以偈答曰: |

At that time, the heavenly son Kāma heard what the Buddha said, rejoiced, bowed his head to the Buddha's feet, and returned to his heavenly palace. | 时迦默天子闻佛所说,欢喜顶礼,还于天宫。 |
