Thus have I heard: |
At one time the Buddha was staying at Anāthapiṇḍada’s Park in the Jeta Grove near Śrāvastī. | |
At that time the World-Honored One told the bhikṣus, "There are eight kinds of power. What are the eight? They are the power of the sovereign king, the power of the minister who decides affairs, the power of the resentful woman, the power of the crying infant, the power of the slanderous fool, the power of the discerning and wise, the power of the renunciant who practices patience, and the power of the learned one who counts. |
After the Buddha had spoken this sūtra, the bhikṣus heard what the Buddha had said and joyfully practiced it. |
