Saṃyuktāgama

Thus have I heard:

At one time the Buddha was staying at Anāthapiṇḍada’s Park in the Jeta Grove near Śrāvastī.

At that time the World-Honored One told the bhikṣus...as above. The difference is: "The power of the king's self-mastery is the king's manifestation of the power of self-mastery. The power of the minister in charge of affairs is the minister's manifestation of the power of handling affairs. The power of a resentful woman is the nature of a woman's manifestation of resentment. The power of a crying infant is the nature of an infant's manifestation of crying. The power of a foolish person's slander is the nature of a foolish person's touching things and slandering. The power of careful and wise discernment is the constant manifestation of careful and wise discernment by a wise person. The power of patience and renunciation is the constant manifestation of patience and renunciation by a renunciant. The power of counting and learning much is the constant manifestation of counting and thinking by a person who has learned much."

After the Buddha had spoken this sūtra, the bhikṣus heard what the Buddha had said and joyfully practiced it.
