Thus have I heard: |
At one time the Buddha was staying at Anāthapiṇḍada’s Park in the Jeta Grove near Śrāvastī. | |
At that time the World-Honored One told the bhikṣus, "Sentient beings have been transmigrating in birth and death since beginningless time, revolving in the cycle of birth and death for a long time, not knowing the original source of suffering. It is like a large raindrop forming a bubble, arising and perishing in each moment. In this way, sentient beings are covered by ignorance, bound by craving around their necks, transmigrating in birth and death since beginningless time. The born and the dead revolve in the cycle of birth and death for a long time, not knowing the original source of suffering. Therefore, bhikṣus! You should study like this: 'Cut off all existences, do not let them increase.'" |
After the Buddha had spoken this sūtra, the bhikṣus heard what the Buddha had said and joyfully practiced it. |
