Thus have I heard: | 如是我闻: |
Once, the Buddha was at Jetavana Anāthapiṇḍada-ārāma in Śrāvastī. At that time, a god from the night, with radiance surpassing the usual, came to where the Buddha was. His majestic light shone brightly throughout Jetavana, illuminating everywhere. He then stood to one side and spoke a verse: | 一时,佛在舍卫国祇树给孤独园。尔时,夜中有一天子,光色倍常,来诣佛所,威光显赫,遍于祇洹,悉皆大明,却在一面,而说偈言: |

At that time, this god heard the Buddha's teaching, rejoiced, and departed. | 尔时,此天闻佛所说,欢喜而去。 |
