Thus have I heard: | 如是我闻: |
Once, the Buddha was at Jetavana Anāthapiṇḍada-ārāma in Śrāvastī. At that time, a god named Tārākṣa came to where the Buddha was. His radiant countenance shone brightly, illuminating the entire Jetavana. He then sat to one side and spoke a verse, saying: | 一时,佛在舍卫国祇树给孤独园。时有天子名多罗健陀,来诣佛所,光颜晖赫,明遍祇洹,却坐一面,而说偈言: |

At that time, the god Indra heard the Buddha's teaching, rejoiced, bowed his head, and returned to his heavenly palace. | 尔时,多罗健陀天子闻佛所说,欢喜顶礼,还于天宫。 |
