Where there is love, there is sorrow; where there is love, there is fear. If there is nothing to love, what is there to sorrow for, what is there to fear?
| 爱处生忧愁, 爱处生怖畏,若无所爱乐, 何愁何怖畏?

Where there is love, there is sorrow; where there is love, there is fear. If one can be free from the thought of love, one will abandon the madness and end it.
| 由爱生忧愁, 由爱生怖畏,若远离念爱, 遂舍狂乱终。
|
The sorrows of people are immeasurable. This is due to the thought of love. If there is no thought, there is no sorrow.
| 夫人怀忧愁, 世苦无数量,斯由念恩爱, 无念则无愁。
|
Therefore, do not give rise to thoughts. Thoughts are a heavy burden They are not bound by anything. There is no thought, no non-thought.
| 是故不生念, 念者是恶累,彼则无诸缚, 无念无不念。
|
Thoughts seek expedient means. For the sake of the Dharma, expedient means are employed Wisdom and expedient means lead to the great meaning, and one attains the supreme honor.
| 念为求方便, 非义不设权,权慧致大义, 自致第一尊。
|
Do not associate with thoughts of love, nor be together with thoughts of non-love Those who love do not see suffering, while those who do not love are sorrowful.
| 莫与爱念会, 亦莫不念俱,念爱不见苦, 不爱念忧戚,
|
In this, one gives rise to sorrow and distress, destroying the wholesome roots of people.
| 于中生愁戚, 消灭人善根。
|
Love and affection for the next life, with many friends and relatives, for a long night of sorrow and regret, thinking of separation is extremely painful.
| 爱念就后世, 朋友多亲眷,长夜忧愁恨, 念离为甚苦。
|
Thinking of the golden complexion and heavenly body, dwelling apart, when pleasure is exhausted, harm arrives, and one is recorded by the Lord of Death.
| 念色金色容, 天身而别住,乐极而害至, 为死王所录。
|
If a person dwells day and night, eliminating thoughts of loving form, digging up the deep roots, not transcending the path of death.
| 若人处昼夜, 消灭念爱色,自掘深根源, 不越死径路。
|
Not good form, good color, loving form, saying not loving, if one says attached to form, led by indulgence.
| 不善形善色, 爱色言非爱,若谓乐著色, 放逸之所使。
|
The one who contemplates desire himself does not dwell with evil this is difficult to attain, pleasure is the root of evil.
| 夫自念欲者, 不与恶共居,此则难获得, 乐为恶根本。
|
The one who contemplates himself should well guard himself like guarding a border city, with strong walls and moats.
| 夫欲自念者, 宜自善守护,如防护边城, 乃牢固墙堑。
|
The one who contemplates himself should conceal himself and be firm and close like guarding a border city, both inside and outside being strong and solid.
| 夫欲自念者, 藏己仍坚密,犹如防边城, 内外悉牢固。
|
One should well guard oneself, later regretting the fleeting moment, when the time passes, then giving rise to worry, in an instant falling into hell.
| 当自善防护, 后刹那虚悔,时过则生忧, 须臾堕地狱。
|
Searching everywhere, wanting the mind to examine, is there any such kind who does not love but loves that.
| 徧于诸方求, 令心中间察,颇有斯等类, 不爱乃爱彼。
|
Taking oneself as an example for others' lives, therefore not harming people,
| 以己喻彼命, 是故不害人,
|
All fear death, none fear the sword and staff, being merciful to oneself can be used as an example, do not kill, do not use the staff.
| 一切皆惧死, 莫不畏刀杖,恕己可为喻, 勿杀勿行杖。
|
It is like a traveler who has been away for a long time, returning safely from afar, his relatives and friends are also at peace, returning with joy.
| 譬如久行人, 从远吉却还,亲厚亦安和, 归来怀庆悦。
|
Those who do good deeds and accumulate merit, from here reach the other shore, themselves receiving much merit and blessings, like a close friend coming with joy.
| 好福行善者, 从此达于彼,自受多福祚, 如亲厚来喜。
|
Arise from the teachings of the sages, restraining the unwholesome mind, those who are close will see love, do not associate with love apart from the path.
| 起从至圣教, 禁制不善心,近者则见爱, 离道莫亲爱。
|
Those who are close and those who are not close, wherever they go there are differences, those who are close to the path are born in heaven, those who are not close fall into hell.
| 近者与不近, 所往皆有异,近道则生天, 不近堕地狱。
|
Those who delight in the Dharma and accomplish precepts, attain faith and delight in practice, those who can admonish themselves, are loved and respected by others.
| 乐法戒成就, 成信乐而习,能诫自身者, 为人所爱敬。
|
Because they are respected by others, it is all due to what they themselves have created in this life they attain fame and renown, in the next life they are reborn in heaven.
| 为人所敬故, 皆由己所造,现世得名誉, 后生于天上。
|
Teaching and training others to accept, restraining them from unwholesome conduct, the good ones will think of them, the evil ones will stay far away.
| 教习使禀受, 制止非法行,善者之所念, 恶者当远离。
|
The good and the unwholesome, these two are not different, the good ones are reborn in heaven, the unwholesome ones fall into hell.
| 善与不善者, 此二俱不别,善者生天上, 不善堕地狱。
