T 210.17 恶行品法句经第十七二十有二章

The chapter on evil conduct means that those who commit evil deeds will experience painful consequences and be subject to karmic retribution. Those who do not engage in evil will be free from suffering.

恶行品者,感切恶人动有罪报,不行无患。

Seeing what is good, they do not follow it, but instead follow evil thoughts. Seeking blessings in an improper way, they instead enjoy deviant sexual practices.

见善不从,  反随恶心,求福不正,反乐邪婬。

Ordinary people commit evil deeds without being able to
awaken to themselves. Foolishly enjoying themselves, they cause future suffering.

凡人为恶,  不能自觉,愚痴快意,  令后欝毒。

Cruel people commit atrocities, sinking and gradually increasing. Those who enjoy themselves will naturally receive retribution for their crimes.

凶人行虐,沈渐数数,快欲为人,  罪报自然;

Virtuous people practice virtue, following and accumulating it. Those who willingly do so will naturally receive blessings.

吉人行德,  相随积增,甘心为之,福应自然。

Demons see blessings, but their evil has not yet ripened
When their evil ripens, they will themselves suffer cruel retribution.

妖[卄/(阿-可+辛)/女]见福,  其恶未熟,至其恶熟,  自受罪虐;

The upright and kind see misfortune, but their goodness has not yet ripened. When their goodness ripens, they will certainly receive its blessings.

贞祥见祸,其善未熟,至其善熟,  必受其福。

Striking others will be struck, harboring resentment will receive resentment, cursing others will be cursed, and showing anger will receive anger.

击人得击、  行怨得怨、骂人得骂、施怒得怒。

People in the world are ignorant and do not know the
true Dharma. Born with a short lifespan, how can they do evil?

世人无闻,  不知正法。生此寿少,  何宜为恶?

Do not underestimate small evils as having no retribution. Although a drop of water is
small, it gradually fills a large vessel. All sins are filled from accumulating small ones;

莫轻小恶,以为无殃,水渧虽微,  渐盈大器,凡罪充满,  从小积成;

Do not underestimate small virtues as having no merit. Although a drop of water is
small, it gradually fills a large vessel. All merit is filled from accumulating small ones.

莫轻小善,以为无福,水滴虽微,  渐盈大器,凡福充满,  从纤纤积。

As for a person's conduct, good and evil, each is for oneself, and will never be destroyed.

夫士为行,好之与恶,各自为身,  终不败亡。

Those who like to take things think it is acceptable, but those who do not take from others will also be taken from.

好取之士,  自以为可,没取彼者,人亦没之。

Evil does not immediately manifest, like milking a cow. The
sin is in the hidden shrine, like ashes covering fire.

恶不即时,  如搆牛乳,罪在阴祠,  如灰覆火。

Playing and laughing as evil, making it into physical actions, crying and weeping as the retribution, following the actions, the sin arrives.

戏笑为恶,以作身行,号泣受报,  随行罪至。

Committing evil is not concealed, like being cut by a soldier. When led away, one knows that one has fallen into evil conduct.

作恶不覆,  如兵所截,牵往乃知,已堕恶行。

Later receiving the retribution of suffering, as previously practiced.

后受苦报,  如前所习。

Like poison touching a wound, a boat entering a whirlpool, evil conduct spreads and harms everyone.

如毒摩疮,  船入洄澓,恶行流衍,靡不伤尅。

Adding evil and falsely accusing others, even the pure cannot be stained
The fool's calamity rebounds upon himself, like dust blown against the wind.

加恶诬罔人,  清白犹不污,愚殃反自及,  如尘逆风坌。

If one makes mistakes and commits evil, but can repent and
do good, this illuminates the world, like the sun without clouds.

过失犯非恶,  能追悔为善,是明照世间,  如日无云曀。

A person's actions are what he sees of
himself. Doing good brings good, doing evil brings evil.

夫士所以行,  然后身自见,为善则得善、  为恶则得恶。

Those with consciousness fall into the womb, the evil enter hell, those
who do good ascend to heaven, and those without conditioning attain nirvana.

有识堕胞胎、  恶者入地狱、行善上升天、  无为得泥洹。

Not in the sky, not in the ocean, not hidden in the mountains
or rocks, there is no place to escape the retribution of past evil.

非空、非海中、  非隐山石间,莫能于此处,  避免宿恶殃。

Sentient beings have suffering and distress, unable to escape old age and
death. Only the compassionate and wise do not think of others' faults.

众生有苦恼,  不得免老死,唯有仁智者,  不念人非恶。
