| 誉恶恶还誉, 是二俱为恶,好以口快鬪, 彼后皆无安。

Striving for a small profit is like losing a treasure From that comes fighting, with the mind heading towards evil paths.
| 争为微少利, 如掩失财宝,从彼致鬪诤, 合意向恶道。

Hundreds of thousands of niraya hells, thirty-six and five hells, those who slander the sages, with mouth and mind making evil vows.
| 百千尼罗浮, 三十六五狱,诽谤贤圣者, 口意发恶愿。

Without the path, falling into evil paths, increasing the suffering of hell, avoiding fools and cultivating the mind of patience, contemplating the truth then there is no transgression.
| 无道堕恶道, 自增地狱苦,远愚修忍意, 念谛则无犯。

If relying on the inner treasure store, relying on the sages to live, fools fall into evil paths, still wishing to do wrong views.
| 若倚内宝藏, 依贤圣活命,愚者堕恶道, 犹愿邪见作。

Having missed this excellent opportunity, making further vows and seeking, will never see the truth, let alone wish to see the ultimate.
| 以失今良会, 更立誓愿求,终不见圣谛, 况欲见究竟?

Bamboo and reeds produce fruit and dry up, still harming their own bodies. If speaking, one should speak well, not teach evil dharmas.
| 竹芦生实干, 还害其自躯,若吐言当善, 不演恶法教。

From good one attains liberation, from evil one does not attain liberation The wise are liberated from good, this is liberation from evil destinies.
| 从善得解脱, 为恶不得解,善解者为贤, 是为脱恶趣。

The wise and holy do not understand it like that, like the foolish who attain liberation. The bhikṣu should restrain his mind, not speaking rashly to attain loyalty.
| 圣贤解不然, 如彼愚得解,苾刍挹损意, 不躁言得忠。

Speaking in accordance with meaning and the Dharma, speaking with gentle words, speaking well the teachings of the wise and holy, speaking the Dharma and the Dharma twice speaking in accordance with mindfulness three times, speaking in accordance with truth four times.
| 义说如法说, 所语言柔软,善说贤圣教, 法说如法二,念说如念三, 谛说如谛四。

Therefore, when speaking, one must ensure that the mind is free from affliction, and also not harm sentient beings. This is called speaking well.
