The chapter on śramaṇas teaches the correct Dharma, and disciples receive and practice it, attaining the purity of understanding and liberation. | |
The eyes, ears, nose, mouth, body, and mind are always upright. The bhikṣus practice like this, and can avoid all suffering.
The hands and feet do not rashly commit offenses. The speech is restrained and in accordance with practice. Always internally delighting in samādhi, guarding the one practice in tranquility.
Learning should guard the mouth, speaking gently and calmly. The Dharma and meaning are the basis, and speech must be gentle.
Delighting in the Dharma, desiring the Dharma, contemplating the peaceful Dharma. The bhikṣu relies on the Dharma, being correct without wasting.
Learning without seeking profit, without loving others' practices. The bhikṣu likes others, but cannot attain concentration.
The bhikṣu takes little, thus attaining non-accumulation. Praised by devas and humans, born pure and undefiled.
The bhikṣu is compassionate, loving and respecting the Buddha's teachings Deeply entering tranquility and insight, extinguishing practices and then at peace.
All names and forms are non-existent, do not be deluded. Not close, not worried, then one is a bhikṣu.
The bhikṣu's boat is light when the middle is empty. Eliminating desire, anger, and ignorance, this is nirvāṇa.
Abandoning the five, cutting off the five, contemplating the five faculties, able to discern the five, then crossing the deep river.
Dhyāna is without carelessness, not disturbed by desire, not swallowing molten copper, tormenting one's own body.
Without dhyāna there is no wisdom, without wisdom there is no dhyāna. The path comes from dhyāna and wisdom, reaching nirvāṇa.
One should study entering emptiness, dwelling in tranquility enjoying solitude, contemplating the Dharma with a single mind.
Always controlling the five aggregates, subduing the mind like water, pure and harmonious, it becomes the taste of nectar.
Not accepting anything, being a wise bhikṣu, controlling the senses and knowing contentment, upholding the precepts and discipline.
Born, one should practice purity, seeking good teachers and friends, the wise help one become a person, crossing suffering and bringing joy.
Like the flowers of the guardian tree, when ripe they fall by themselves, releasing desire, anger, and ignorance, birth and death are naturally released.
Stopping the body and speech, the mind guards the profound silence, the bhikṣu abandons the world, this is called receiving tranquility.
One should admonish oneself, internally contending with the mind, guarding the body and contemplating the truth, the bhikṣu is only at ease.
I myself for myself, considering there is no self, therefore I should diminish myself, only then am I considered wise.
Rejoicing in the Buddha's teachings, one can rejoice greatly, until reaching solitude, practicing extinction and eternal peace.
If one practices the Buddha's precepts, this illuminates the world like the sun without obstruction.
Abandoning pride and all arrogance, like a lotus born from water, pure Learning can abandon this and that, knowing this is superior to that.
Cutting off love without longing, not accepting like a lotus. The bhikṣu crossing the river, superior to desire clear.
Cutting the stream, self-reliant, the mind turns away from desire. The compassionate do not cut off desire, with single-minded intent, still running.
For it! For it! Must forcefully restrain oneself Abandoning the household, the mind still becomes defiled.
For those who practice laxly, the weary mind is not eliminated. Not practicing pure and chaste conduct, how can one attain the great treasure?
What is the practice of a śramaṇa? If the mind is not restrained, with every step one becomes attached, and only follows after thoughts.
Wearing the kasaya robe over the shoulders, evil is not diminished. Those who engage in evil and evil conduct will fall into evil paths.
Untamed and difficult to admonish, like a tree withered by the wind. Doing for oneself, why not be diligent?
Resting the mind is not about shaving, and arrogance is not about precepts. Abandoning greed and contemplating the path is truly resting the mind;
| 息心非剔, 慢𫍙无戒,舍贪思道,乃应息心;
Resting the mind is not about shaving, and carelessness is not about faith. Being able to extinguish all suffering is the supreme śramaṇa;
